DEUXGLASS of Whidbey Island, Washington is the husband and wife collaborative team, Jim and Blanka. Coming from creative fields, we joined our lives and work at the beginning of the new century. We discovered that we both love etchings, watercolors and fine papers...we both enjoy the feel of an old book...we both are tech savvy and work digitally. So the idea of creating a paper arts company was the easy part. It came about during our extended working stay in Prague, the "Golden City" of medieval charm, the city of music, poetry and art. Visits to the numerous exhibits of the Old Masters, as well as the contemporary artists in the museums, galleries and streets of Europe, greatly inspired our style for the cards that followed.
Our first card was a Christmas illustration featuring a scene from the Old Town Square in Prague, created only for a close circle of friends and clients. The positive response and perhaps the romantic surrounding and our own warm personal relationship gave us the motivation to create more cards. We began pairing words and images in combinations of visual metaphors and aphorisms or simple messages.
After a few years, and many late nights and designs, Deuxglass Paper Arts was launched. Our card collection is produced around a visual concept with message themes based on the mood that the image and design evoke. So with the joy of the interplay of word and image with space for personal embellishment...we hope to inspire.
